September 11, 2001 brought a different feeling to our lives. Everyone seemed to stand still for a moment and think about the truly important things in life. Poetry has always been a way for me to express my emotions. The following two poems are a result of my emotions on that day.
In Silent Memory
In silent memory we stand today
We bow our heads and then we pray
For all the souls who now are gone
But America must carry on
And in "their memory" we shall stand
A stronger nation hand and hand...

(On the Friday after September 11th, Shelbyville, Indiana held a memorial service on the town square which was broad-cast by the local radio station. This poem was read and then a three minute silence was held on the air.)
Disbelief - September -11
As we stand in the shadows and look toward the sky
Something is missing and we ask, ~Why God Why~
As all went dutifully round bout their day
No word of warning while busy they stayed
As policemen and firemen rushed to the scene
Disbelief and shock-who would do such a thing
This is America, this can't happen to us
But happen it did, now face it we must
So united we'll stand, proud we will be
Fight for our land the home of the free
God blessed our nation, In Him we much trust
As solemnly we stand mid the ashes and dust.
